The Nigerian Joint Tax Board (JTB) has implemented the federal government’s plan to automate and harmonize tax payment in Nigeria. In an attempt to achieve this objective, every Nigerian Citizen of taxable age who has either a bank Verification Number (BVN) or National Identity Number(NIN) has been assigned a Tax Identification Number, TIN.

Tax identification number (TIN) is a unique number that identifies an individual or a company In Nigeria for the sole purpose of tax remittance. Originally, the TIN number was issued by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) but it now issued by the Joint Tax Board of Nigeria(JTB).

What is JTB TIN Verification portal?

The JTB TIN portal is a service created by the Nigerian government through the JTB for Nigerian Taxpayers and relevant stakeholders to be able to verify their TIN online. It also allows Taxpayers to print their TIN certificate or send it to email. It is a free service available 24/7.

A. Requirement for Individuals

1. Date of Birth

1. Corporate Affairs Commission(CAC) registered corporate number (RC number)
2. Date of Incorporation

How To Check Your TIN in JTB TIN Portal – Tin.jtb.gov.ng

TIN Verification process on the JTB TIN portal is a little different for individuals and Non-Individuals or companies as you can see below.

TIN Verification For Individuals: How To Verify TIN for Individuals

Step 1. Visit the JTB verification portal.

Step 2. The verification form is on the left side of the home page.

Step 3. Select your Date of Birth.

Step 4. Select your preferred search criteria from the search Criteria Dropdown. The search criteria will be one of NIN or BVN or Registered Phone Number.

Step 5. Then enter the appropriate value based on the search criteria in Step 4 above eg: Enter your registered phone number if that was your prefered search criteria

Step 6. Confirm you are not a robot by checking the CAPTCHA box

Step 7. Finally, click the green Search button at the bottom of the form.

TIN Verification  Corporate Taxpayers: How To Verify TIN for Companies

Step1. Visit the TIN verification portal.

Step 2. Select the Organization’s Date of Incorporation

Step 3. Then, select your preferred search criteria from the Select Criteria Dropdown menu – TIN or CAC registration Number or Registered Phone Number. The CAC registration number should be typed in this format: BN1234 or IT1234 or RC1234.

Step 4. Provide the appropriate value based on the search criteria in Step 2 above.
